'Real Power': Trumpist Kook Laura Loomer Lights A Five-Alarm Fire

President Donald Trump’s abrupt apparent removal of the general who oversaw U.S. Cyber Command and the National Security Agency at the reported behest of the MAGA influencer Laura Loomer, a notorious bigot and conspiracy theorist, is a five-alarm fire for national security and good governance. The move demonstrates that the only qualification for service in the administration is personal loyalty to the president as determined by his most zealous sycophants.

Top Democrats on the House and Senate intelligence committees said on Thursday night that Gen. Timothy D. Haugh had been removed from his positions as director of the NSA and head of the military’s Cyber Command. According to The New York Times, “a U.S. official briefed on the matter said Laura Loomer, a far-right activist and outside adviser to President Trump, called for General Haugh’s removal during her Oval Office meeting on Thursday. Mr. Trump ordered Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth to fire General Haugh, the official said.”

Loomer subsequently appeared to take credit, writing on X that Haugh and his deputy had been “fired” because they were “disloyal to President Trump” and thanking the president “for being receptive to the vetting materials provided to you.” She gave no evidence of Haugh’s purported disloyalty in her post — nor any critique of his service in his positions — instead criticizing him as “a Biden appointee” who “had no place serving in the Trump admin given the fact that he was HAND PICKED by” former Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman Mark Milley.

Haugh is not the only apparent casualty of Loomer’s efforts. His seeming removal comes amid a firestorm caused by the revelation that Hegseth had provided precise details about an imminent U.S. military strike in Yemen in a Signal messaging group of top Trump officials assembled by national security adviser Mike Waltz, a move experts said endangered the lives of U.S. service members.

Waltz and Hegseth still remain in their posts — but as that story continued to metastasize, Loomer met with Trump in the Oval Office and provided him “with opposition research on [National Security Council] staffers whom she views as neoconservatives or not sufficiently loyal to the president.” The White House purged at least six NSC staffers following that meeting.

Trump surrounds himself with and takes counsel from a litany of right-wing media figures because he appreciates their fervent public support, particularly though not exclusively on Fox News. Those individuals wield immense power over every aspect of governance despite their total lack of relevant qualifications or temperament.

Even among the MAGA movement’s constellation of grifters, con artists, bigots, and loons, Loomer shines brightly. Here’s what I wrote about her in September as her presence accompanying Trump on the campaign trail triggered concern even from some of his other close allies:

Loomer is a self-described “proud Islamophobe” who is “pro-white nationalism.” She has claimed there is a “genocide” of “native white populations,” which she says are “being replaced in this country by third-world invaders,” and accused “so many rich Jews” of having “a fixation on trying to destroy America.” She has accused the Biden administration of seeking to assassinate Trump; called for the execution of unnamed “Democrats who are guilty of treason”; said that “all of these communist secretaries of state who try to rig our elections” against Trump “belong in jail for election interference”; and shared a video which claimed “9/11 was an Inside Job!”
...
Loomer has in recent weeks described [then-Vice President Kamala] Harris, whose parents immigrated from India and Jamaica, as “a brain-dead bimbo who sucked so much c**k in order to get to the political position that she's in today,” said she “is NOT black and never has been,” said her election would ensure that “Ebonics will replace English as the language of our land,” and said that if she’s elected “the White House will smell like curry & White House speeches will be facilitated via a call center and the American people will only be able to convey their feedback through a customer satisfaction survey at the end of the call that nobody will understand.”

Loomer is nonetheless unusually influential because Trump apparently appreciates her personal, fanatical loyalty. “I don’t really have much of a life, you know?” Loomer told The Washington Post last year. “So I’m happy to dedicate all my time to helping Trump, because if Trump doesn’t get back in, I don’t have anything.”

She apparently has something now — enough influence to impose her own loyalty tests on high-ranking government officials and see them cashiered by the president (and, she claims, to help shape his foreign policy). And so the country turns on the whims of someone once described by Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA), herself no stranger to bigoted and unhinged conspiracy theories, as “mentally unstable and a documented liar” who “can not be trusted” and is “toxic and poisonous.”

If you had said in October that if Trump were elected he would end up firing the NSA director and purging the NSC on the advice of someone like Loomer, you’d have been accused of having a terminal case of Trump Derangement Syndrome. And yet here we are, careening up to worst-case scenarios before the president’s 100-day mark.

National Security Agency Chief Fired At Conspiracy Theorist's Urging

On Wednesday afternoon, President Donald Trump had a visitor in the White House Oval Office: far-right conspiracy theorist Laura Loomer, a self-described "proud Islamophobe" who is controversial even among fellow Trump supporters.

During that April 2 meeting, as reported by New York Times reporters Maggie Haberman, Jonathan Swan and Ken Bensinger, Loomer "pressed for him to fire National Security Council staff members whom she deemed disloyal to him."

One day later, Trump fired Gen. Timothy D. Haugh, the head of the National Security Agency and U.S. Cyber Command, along with other top national security staff members identified by Loomer as "disloyal," according to Democrats on the House and Senate intelligence committees. The move stunned intelligence officials, who had clue that it was coming.

But a U.S. official told the Times that Loomer, a far-right activist and close confidante of Trump, called for Gen. Haugh’s removal during her Oval Office meeting on Thursday. The official said Trump then ordered Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth to fire the cyber defense chief.

In statements to the Times, both Sen. Mark Warner of Virginia and Rep. Jim Himes of Connecticut condemned the ouster of Gen. Haugh.

Loomer seemed to take credit for Haugh's firing, writing in a post on X that he “had no place” serving in the administration because he had been chosen for the job by Gen. Mark A. Milley, the former chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff who became a sharp critic of Trump.

“Why would we want an NSA Director who was referred to Biden after being hand selected by Milley,” Loomer posted. “Why would we want Milley’s hand picked choice for NSA DIRECTOR? We do not! And he was referred for firing.”

The Times journalists reported, that"Ms. Loomer's rhetoric and actions have been so extreme that she has alienated others even on the far right. She has shared a conspiracy theory on social media calling the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks an 'inside job.' During the 2024 campaign, Ms. Loomer said that 'the White House will smell like curry' if Kamala Harris were elected — a jab at her Indian heritage…. But on Wednesday afternoon, she sat with the president in the Oval Office, plying him with claims about staff members whom she insisted he should dismiss."

Trump's meeting with Loomer elicited strong reactions on social media.

Former MSNBC host Mehdi Hasan tweeted, "The National Security Adviser had to go to the Oval Office to defend his own staff from being fired by the president, because a woman who said 9/11 was an inside job was in the Oval personally briefing the president. Trump's America, folks. Insane."

CNN's Jake Tapper posted, "As she meets with President Trump and advises firings in the National Security Council, a brief reminder of who Laura Loomer is, in her own words." And Tapper's "reminder" included Loomer's 9/11 conspiracy theories and racist comments attacking former Vice President Harris.

The firings "are a sharp break with precedent," as the Times reported.Presidents normally maintain top military officers in their posts even when they were nominated by a president of a different party.

Sen. Warner praised Gen. Haugh and said firing him wouldn't make the country safer. He tweaked the Trump White House for sharing national security secrets on a consumer messaging application and ousting National Security Council staff because Loomer urged it.

The Virginia senator Warner said the firing of a “nonpartisan, experienced leader” like Gen. Haugh was “astonishing.”

Loomer Trashes Musk Again -- And She's Right

Far-right activist and conspiracy theorist Laura Loomer just said what we’ve all been thinking: Elon Musk wields far too much power in the MAGA world—and it’s getting tiresome.

Appearing on Steve Bannon’s right-wing podcast “War Room,” Loomer, a racist piece of work in her own right, torched the billionaire CEO as a “welfare queen” and technocrat who has outsized influence in the U.S. political sphere due to his burgeoning relationship with President-elect Donald Trump.

Loomer also called Musk a “stage 5 clinger,” an apparent reference to how Musk continues to relentlessly “slither” around Mar-a-Lago.

“I don’t think it’s acceptable for billionaires to have this much power and this much access,” she said. “What is it going to mean for the future of our country, our national security, and the incoming Trump administration if we have a bunch of technocrats, who are also essentially welfare queens because their companies are receiving government subsidies, and they want to take over our defense industry?”

Loomer’s comments are the latest escalation in the civil war between Trump’s billionaire tech bros, Musk and fellow DOGE dork Vivek Ramaswamy, and the MAGA faithful, such as Bannon and Loomer. The rift began when Musk pushed back on attacks on H-1B visas, which are often awarded to highly skilled immigrant workers.

Bannon, for his part, has blasted the visas as a “scam” that he falsely claims “[take] American jobs and [bring] over what essentially become indentured servants at lower wages.”

He’s also referred to Musk as “sociopathic” and said that American workers are owed “reparations” for the jobs that have allegedly been stolen by immigrants.

The infighting between the two groups has gotten rather nasty, as Loomer has used her five seconds of fame to launch attacks on Indian immigrants, who she called “third world invaders.” In the same sentence, she managed to lavish praise on the “white Europeans” who she claims built the nation.

While Trump has publicly sided with Musk in the debate, telling the New York Post that he supports the H-1B visa program, that hasn’t stopped certain MAGA allies from ripping into it—and anyone who supports it.

During a Monday appearance on former Fox News host Eric Bolling’s Newsmax show, Loomer suggested that some Republicans don’t want to cross Musk because he’s rich. Musk spent more than a quarter-billion dollars to help Trump win his second term as president.

“This is the problem when you allow for a billionaire to make a $200 million donation and so maybe we really do need to have campaign finance regulations in this country,” she said.

Of Trump, Loomer said that she “love[s]” him, but worried his recent backing of Musk was due to the billionaire’s aid in his re-election efforts.

“It sounds like people are scared of crossing the king, the king of the world, Elon Musk, the monarch,” she said.

It’s annoying that valid criticism of Musk is coming from a far-right character known for her virulent racism and support of conspiracy theories, but thankfully she’s not the only person to hit Musk in recent days.

During his New Year’s address, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz not-so-subtly admonished the billionaire after he tried to tip the scales in Germany’s snap election, which will take place on February 23. His comments came shortly after Musk reiterated his support for Germany’s right-wing, anti-immigration Alternative for Germany, or AfD, party.

“You, the citizens, decide what happens in Germany,” Scholz said. “It’s not up to the owners of social media.”

Musk already has immense influence over U.S. politics, but it’s unclear whether he can take his political meddling to the international level. It’s also unclear who will win this MAGA war, but it seems safe to say that the interpersonal chaos that has rocked Trump’s party for years will continue into the new year.

Maybe we can continue this trend of dunking on Musk in 2025?

Melania Absent As Trump And Far-Right Agitator Laura Loomer 'Cozy Up'

Melania Absent As Trump And Far-Right Agitator Laura Loomer 'Cozy Up'

Miami New Times reporter Naomi Feinstein mapped out the last known whereabouts of Melania Trump after photos and videos surfaced of Donald Trump embracing far-right conspiracy theorist Laura Loomer — with the former first lady nowhere to be found.

In an article entitled, “Laura Loomer and Trump Sitting in a Tree, K I S S I N G,” Feinstein noted “the former first lady has been largely absent” as her husband hits the campaign trail for the third time as the Republican candidate for president.

“When Trump and his entourage arrived in Philadelphia for the presidential debate, Melania was nowhere to be seen,” Feinstein reported, noting Loomer, “Florida's own far-right provocateur and one-time Republican congressional candidate,” was by the former president’s side instead.

“[Loomer] was later seen backstage at the September 10 debate, in the spin room with Trump immediately after, and then by his side in New York City and Pennsylvania for September 11 remembrance ceremonies,” Feinstein added.

The Miami-based reporter, quoting Internet personality Mike Sington, noted Trump has been seen “hanging out with” Loomer. The "Internet personality" also included a video “with their hands all over each other at Mar-a-Lago.”

"Loomer has been traveling with Trump all week for reasons that remain unclear,” journalist Aaron Rupar wrote in a separate tweet.

Feinstein and other journalists are hardly the only members of the media taking note of the connection between Trump and Loomer. The Drudge Report on Friday featured a photo of the pair with the headline “ Loomer MAGA Love.

“Has [Trump] found his soulmate?” The Drudge Report asked.

Still, it’s not a match made in heaven for everyone in Trump’s corner. Far-right Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) on Thursday called out Loomer over an “extremely racist” tweet that claimed if Vice President Kamala Harris wins in 2024, “the White House will smell like curry & White House speeches will be facilitated via a call center.”

“This does not represent President Trump,” Greene wrote on X.

But that misrepresentation doesn’t appear to bother Trump, who on Friday defended his connection to Loomer, calling her “a supporter of mine.”

“I don’t control Laura,” Trump said at a news conference in Rancho Palos Verdes, CA. “Laura has to say what she wants. She’s a free spirit.
