Trump’s disastrous summit with Vladimir Putin has been panned by most Americans, but avowed racist and former Klansman David Duke is sticking up for his president.
In response to Trump siding with Putin over American law enforcement agencies like the FBI, he has even been criticized by some on Fox News and within the Republican Party.
Of course, both remain firmly in Trump’s corner, and in the case of congressional Republicans, they have made no substantive efforts to punish or condemn his un-American behavior.
By contrast, longtime hatemonger Duke is firmly in Trump’s corner, highlighting the type of person most drawn to Trump’s presidency.
In a tweet, Duke wrote, “Bravo Trump! Bravo Russia! Bravo to all the true American Patriots who put America first and Peace and Justice first before the Zionist Deep Evil State ruling American Media and Politics.”
Duke called the Helsinki meeting “historic” and hailed Trump for a “courageous attack” on “the Zionist Occupied Media.”
The term is an anti-Semitic description, and part of the decades-long false, bigoted, conspiracy accusing Jewish people of being puppet masters of the media.
Duke is the former Grand Wizard of the racial terrorist organization, the Ku Klux Klan, who believes that white people are superior to all other races.
As the most well-known racist political figure in the United States, it isn’t difficult to see why Duke has such an affinity for Trump.
During the presidential election, Duke repeatedly proclaimed his unwavering support for Trump, while Trump had to be publicly hounded to issue a tepid rebuke of Duke.
The decision to keep the lines of communication open between his presidency and white supremacists, who he once called “very fine people,” has now worked out for Trump with Duke’s unabashed support.
Trump has taken the nation down an uncharted path by allying himself with Putin instead of the country he leads.
The moral quality of that path has been revealed by the man helping Trump along: a Klansman, filled with unadulterated hate and bile.
